Using a Known Donor
While it is possible to use external banks to order genetic material, it is also possible for people you know to donate sperm or eggs to you. This is called a directed donation.

Known Egg Donors

The recipient can select an egg donor among their family and friends, and then undergo the necessary procedures at clinique ovo. The donor must be aged 35 or under (ideally under the age of 32 for the best chance of a cumulative pregnancy), and meet all other criteria for becoming a donor, as mentioned in the Become a Donor section. The selection criteria are in place to protect the health and safety of the donor and any child that results from the donation. These criteria are also in place to assure the best possible success rate.

The use of donor eggs (known or unknown) is prohibited if the eggs have not been processed according to Health Canada guidelines.

Delays

The time frame for an egg donation depends on several variable factors. Finding an egg donor is a very important step and can take time. Considering that you have already found your donor, you can calculate a period of 5 to 6 months to complete the whole process. Known Sperm Donors

This procedure applies when a patient, a couple or a family group wants to use sperm from a known donor, which would then be theirs to use exclusively. This procedure is also known as a "directed donation."

The use of donor sperm (known or anonymous) that has not been processed in compliance with Health Canada guidelines is prohibited.

The donor’s file must be processed by clinique ovo and approved by Health Canada.

The patient, couple or family group must assume the full cost of all tests.
