Oncological Preservation
In case of a cancer diagnosis, every choice matters. Preserving fertility is a crucial step for those who wish to maintain the option of having children after treatment. We are here to support you throughout this process.

Egg preservation for oncological reasons

When a person has to undergo chemotherapy treatments, it is possible to preserve fertility by freezing the eggs before starting the treatment. This decision is often made on short notice, as chemotherapy must be initiated as soon as possible to maximize the chances of recovery. During such a period, the treatment plan can be demanding on the patient both physically and mentally. The fertility preservation program at the clinique ovo, through its nursing staff, will ensure you are ready to proceed with the treatment by coordinating care with your treating team as well as our own. A meeting with our on-site psychologist is also suggested.

Procedure for egg preservation

  1. Make an appointment by contacting: 514.798.2000 ext. 139
  2. An appointment will be given promptly (as soon as we have received the necessary information) and the physician will evaluate the patient in order to prescribe the appropriate IVF treatment protocol (tests may be ordered). Medication will be prescribed to stimulate the production of several eggs. When maturation of the eggs is deemed optimal, the egg retrieval will be scheduled.
  3. The nurses in charge of oncology preservations will communicate with the patient to explain all the steps of the IVF procedure and will follow up on the file with the different professionals involved.
  4. A follow-up call will be made on the day following the egg retrieval by the nurses of the clinic in order to assess the patient's condition and provide the necessary support.

Documents and information needed to submit a referral for consultation (for healthcare professionals only) :

  1. Referral for a consultation from the oncologist with confirmation of the diagnosis, treatment plan, and maximum delay to start the radio and/or chemo and/or cytotoxic medication (to establish eligibility and the possibility of doing the treatment) and fax the request to 514-798-2001.
  2. Contact details of the patient (phone number), the pivot nurse and the referring doctor.

Sperm preservation for medical reasons

Freezing sperm is a straightforward procedure. The sperm is collected by self-masturbation; it is then analyzed by the laboratory and processed  to allow for efficient freezing. If the patient has an ejaculation disorder or a diagnosis of infertility, the sperm can be retrieved surgically.
