Treatments & Solutions
Several infertility treatments can be proposed to you. Please remember that each patient's fertility journey is unique, and the decision on which treatment best fits your situation will be taken with your physician.

Ovulation induction

Often used as the initial treatment of infertility problems related to hormonal imbalance (ovulation disorder).

Process

Step 1

Medication to restore the natural process. Some patients will be given hormone injections to induce ovulation.

Step 2

Ovulation monitoring using ultrasound

Step 3

The specialists at the clinique ovo will tell you the best time to have sexual relations.

Intrauterine insemination (IUI)

IUI or artificial insemination is another first-line treatment and consists of the artificial introduction of sperm directly into the uterine cavity using a flexible plastic catheter. This technique brings sperm closer to the fallopian tubes where fertilization occurs, thus increasing the chances of pregnancy.

Process

Step 1

Medication to stimulate the ovaries (ovulation induction).

Step 2

Ultrasound monitoring to evaluate the progress of the treatment and plan the date of insemination.

Step 3

Ovulation is induced by medication and insemination is performed within 35 to 40 hours. The semen sample should be collected in the morning.

In Vitro fertilization (IVF)

In vitro fertilization is the fertilization of eggs by sperm outside the body, in a laboratory. In most cases, a medication that stimulates the ovaries will be prescribed in order to produce several follicles. The eggs will be retrieved and then fertilized in the laboratory by sperm to create embryos. For fresh embryo transfers, usually 5 days later an embryo will be transferred into the uterus. Supernumerary embryos can be frozen for later transfer.

Sometimes, it may be necessary to freeze all the embryos and not do a fresh transfer. Several factors may indicate that it is best to delay the transfer until the following month. This situation occurs in approximately 50% of IVF cycles and will be discussed with you, if necessary.

Process

Stimulation and monitoring

During this period, your physician will evaluate the development of your oocytes/eggs so that they can be retrieved at full maturity. This will last approximately 2 to 5 weeks, and 2 to 4 ultrasounds will be performed. If your cycle is stimulated, you will take medication during that period.

Egg retrieval

In this technique, mature oocytes are retrieved vaginally by means of a suction system. They are then given to the embryologist who is responsible for finding the number of eggs in each oocyte recovered. At the clinique ovo, you will be able to watch the entire process on a television installed in the procedure  room.

In Vitro fertilization

Traditional IVF: This technique consists of putting the harvested egg in the presence of sperm to simulate natural fertilization, all in a controlled environment.

IVF with ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection): An IVF technique in which the sperm is meticulously selected by the embryologist and inserted with a very fine needle directly into the egg. This is done under the microscope by our embryologists.

Embryo maturation

It is usually during this time that your physician will be able to determine whether you will have a fresh (after 5 or 6 days) or frozen (after 1 or 2 menstrual cycles) embryo transfer

Embryo transfer

This procedure is performed under ultrasound and involves implanting the embryo into your uterus using a catheter. Please note that the bladder must be full during this procedure.
